At World Wide Technology, we know that what's good for the world is good for business. As a global technology solutions provider, WWT has taken significant strides to address the challenges posed by e-waste. In an era where technology is advancing at lightning speed, the issue of electronic waste, or "e-waste," has become increasingly pressing. By partnering with Adonis, an e-waste recycling company that specializes in the collection, recycling, and refurbishment of electronic devices in an environmentally friendly manner, WWT has developed a comprehensive program aimed at responsibly managing electronic waste. A plan that not only helps WWT reduce its carbon footprint but engages employees and benefits our global communities as well. Here are three ways we are making a positive environmental impact through our partnership with Adonis.

Annual e-waste recycling events

One of the standout features of this collaborative program is the annual e-waste recycling event organized by WWT. This event invites employees to bring their old electronics for safe disposal. From outdated computers and smartphones to obsolete peripherals, employees have the opportunity to responsibly recycle their e-waste while contributing to a sustainable future. In 2024's drive, employees in St. Louis and Edwardsville contributed 1,200 pounds of e-waste. For reference, this is the equivalent of 50 laptops, 200 strings of Christmas lights, 800 phone charger cords, 10 microwaves and 10 vacuum cleaners combined!

These events not only encourage responsible e-waste disposal but also foster a culture of environmental awareness among employees. By participating, WWT's workforce becomes more conscious of the impact of their electronic consumption and the importance of recycling.

Internal e-waste management

In addition to the annual events, WWT collaborates with Adonis to manage its internal e-waste. In our business, as a technology-driven company, WWT generates a significant amount of electronic waste. By working closely with Adonis, WWT ensures that its obsolete equipment is either recycled or refurbished, extending the lifecycle of usable devices and minimizing environmental impact.

This internal management process allows WWT to operate more sustainably while also providing resources that can be reinvested into local communities. Refurbished equipment can be redistributed, helping bridge the digital divide in underserved areas.

Community impact and charitable donations

The impact of WWT's e-waste recycling initiative goes beyond the company itself. The funds generated from the recycling and refurbishment processes are donated to local charities, supporting various community programs and initiatives. This commitment not only promotes sustainability but also enriches the lives of individuals and families in need.

By transforming e-waste into funding for charitable causes, WWT and Adonis are creating a cycle of positive impact. This collaborative approach showcases how responsible business practices can contribute to the greater good while addressing pressing environmental issues.

In 2024 the partnership was able to donate $30,000 dollars to the United Way charitable foundation to be distributed between eight charities aligned with WWT's employee resource groups (ERG). In addition, Adonis sponsored a friendly ERG fundraising competition, where WWT's Employee Resource Groups were challenged to raise funds for their United Way charity of choice! This resulted in an additional $4,150 being raised and the victory bragging rights going to WWT's Veteran ERG.

Looking to the future

WWT's partnership with Adonis exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to e-waste management. Through annual recycling events, effective internal processes and community support, this collaboration demonstrates the potential for businesses to lead in sustainability efforts. As technology continues to evolve, WWT and Adonis remain dedicated to ensuring that e-waste is handled responsibly, paving the way for a greener future for all.
