Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN (Viptela) Sandbox (20.15.x)

Solution overview

This sandbox environment features a pre-configured network topology designed to showcase the diverse capabilities of the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN solution. The incorporated set of components within the lab topology include Controllers and IOS-XE WAN Edges (Catalyst 8000V), all running on 20.15.1/17.15.01a code.

In August 2024, Cisco released Catalyst SD-WAN version 20.15.1, which includes several important enhancements, including Layer 2 VPN multihoming, EtherChannel configuration via groups, and load balancing across port channels. It introduces BFD troubleshooting with radioactive tracing, multicast support for hub-and-spoke topologies, and improved packet duplication handling through underlay fragmentation. Security features include simplified Cisco Umbrella credentials, enhanced SGACL logging with High-Speed Logging, and Zscaler sub-location support. New cloud integration tools like the Cloud OnRamp for SaaS workflow optimize SaaS path performance. Additionally, Cisco SD-WAN Manager now supports WebHook notifications, custom admin-tech files, and improved visibility into IPsec drops and packet duplication. With multi-region fabric support, enhanced configuration group management, and new features like Smart Licensing integration and Cyber Vision security, this release offers greater flexibility, enhanced security, and easier SD-WAN management.
