Doing Our Part to Improve Water Conservation
World Water Day is a United Nations day of observance, held of March 22 of every year, that began in 1993. This year's theme was "Groundwater - Making the Invisible Visible." Fun fact: Almost all the liquid freshwater in the world is groundwater.
While WWT's business operations do not require a significant amount of water, we recognize the value of this natural resource and that we all play a part in the global effort to conserve water. We are continually assessing our operations to identify ways we can make a positive impact on the environment. This includes measuring water consumption annually and researching opportunities for more sustainable water usage, such as landscape controls and water-efficient plumbing fixtures.
Our employees have also contributed their own ideas, one of which was implemented throughout our company buildings. Originated from our leadership development program, the proposed idea was to install water refill stations to help the company and our guests keep massive amounts of plastic water bottles out of our landfills and from ending up as litter. Since the installation in October 2015, the refill stations have reduced the use of tens of thousands of disposable bottles.
