Digital Workspace Priorities for 2024
A roadmap for improving the digital employee experience
Employee experience (EX) and human resources (HR) leaders should use this report to empower employees, boost productivity, attract and retain top talent, and promote innovation.
These recommendations are based on decades of helping clients navigate the complexities of delivering a best-in-class EX and our own EX, which has been recognized by Fortune's Great Place to Work® list for 13 years running.
The workplace is constantly evolving. Leaders who embrace change and achieve these priorities will enable their organizations to thrive long-term:
- Optimize EX to improve customer experience (CX): EX and CX are closely connected. Leaders must strike a balance between these experiences to reach their full potential and fulfill their mission.
- Prepare to introduce AI and automation into the workforce: AI solutions can help employees — both end users and IT teams — do their jobs more efficiently, but not every employee needs a license for every AI tool. Identifying who needs what tools is key.
- Achieve technology interoperability: Organizations have more siloed systems, tools, devices and platforms than ever before. Creating a more connected and streamlined environment makes a better experience for both IT departments and employees.
- Navigate return-to-office mandates: The recent surge in mandates reflects a desire to restore workplace dynamics and foster collaboration. Leaders must prioritize strategies that create an enriching transition back to traditional office environments.
- Foster a culture of belonging: By intentionally leading with a people-first strategy, leveraging technology and addressing apprehension around AI, organizations can progress their diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) programs and overcome obstacles like proximity bias and meeting inequality.
